IPhone vs. Samsung Galaxy S9 plus comparison

The pace of digital innovation is astonishing. We live in an era of smartphones where we find it impossible to live without the web, social networks, and smartphones. Smartphones have become a part and parcel of our life. We find it very difficult to pass a single day without our mobile phones. Samsung and Apple are the biggest giants in the world of smartphones. These two companies are always in a battle when they launch their new phones. Each time they come out with new features and they never fail to impress us. Recently, iPhone launched iPhone X and Samsung launched the S9 series. The iPhone X was launched on November 3, 2017, and Samsung Galaxy s9+ was launched on March 16, 2018. Each of these has amazing features which leave us confused as to what is the best.

IPhone vs. Samsung Galaxy S9 plus


The Samsung S9 plus has a screen size of 6.2 inches and iPhone X has a screen size of 5.8 iPhone has OLED display while Samsung S9+ has a Super AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode). The screen resolution is 1440×2560 pixels in Samsung S9+ and 2438×1125 pixels. The pixel density is 531 and 463 in Samsung Galaxy S9+ and iPhone respectively. The screen to body ratio is 80.93% in iPhone X and 83.99% in S9+. The Samsung S9+ has the capacitive touchscreen along with multiple touches whereas iPhone X has 3D touch touchscreen along with multiple touches.


iPhone X has a thickness of 7.7 mm, the width of 70.9 mm and a weight of 174 grams. Samsung Galaxy S9+ has a thickness of 8.5mm, a width of 73.8 mm and a weight of 189 grams. The iPhone X is water resistant with IP67 and the Samsung Galaxy S9 is water resistant with IP68 up to 30 minutes in a depth of 1.5 meters. Both the phones are dust proof. The colors available in iPhone X are Space Grey and Silver and in Samsung S9+ the colors are Midnight Black, Lilac Purple, and coral blue.


The Samsung Galaxy S9+ has compass/magnetometer whereas iPhone lacks it. Both the phones have a proximity sensor, Accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, and gyroscope. In addition, the iPhone X has a temperature sensor.


The rear camera for both the phones is 12 mega-pixel. But the front camera in Samsung Galaxy S9+ is 8 megapixel and 7 megapixels in iPhone X. The iPhone X camera exposure compensation and ISO control whereas Samsung S9+ has only exposure compensation. iPhone X has an aperture of F2.2 and Samsung S9+ has F1.7 and the image resolution of both the phones is 4000×3000 pixels. The Samsung S9+ camera features wide-angle selfie whereas iPhone X camera features 10X Digital Zoom, Auto flash, optical zoom, touch to focus and face detection. High Dynamic range mode and continuous shooting are available on both the phones. In addition, the iPhone X has burst mode. The iPhone X has retina flash whereas Samsung S9+ has LED flash. Both the phones have optical image stabilization and iPhone X has Dual optical image stabilization. iPhone X has BSI sensor while Samsung S9+ has CMOS image sensor.


The iPhone X has an Apple A11 Bionic chipset whereas Samsung Galaxy S9+ has Samsung Exynos 9 Octa 9810 chipset. The iPhone X is powered by Hexa core 2.53 GHz, Dual Core, Monsoon+ 1.42 GHz, Quad core and mistral processor. On the other hand, Samsung S9+ has Octa-core 2.7 GHz, Quad core, M2 Mongoose + 1.7 GHz, Quad core, and Cortex A53 processor. The Samsung S9+ has a 6 GB ram which is higher compared to the 3GB ram of iPhone X. The internal storage is 64 GB and Samsung S9+ has an expandable memory up to 400 GB whereas iPhone X has no expandable memory. Battery and Speakers

Samsung Galaxy S9+ has 3500 mAh battery while iPhone X has 2715 mAh battery. Both the phones have quick and wireless charging and iPhone X has a talk time up to 21 hours whereas Samsung S9+ has a talk time up to 25 hours. Samsung S9+ has stereo speakers and phone X has stereo speakers on the earpiece and also on the bottom of the phone.

Face Unlock

Both the phones have facial recognition but the technology is different. The Samsung S9+ uses a blend of less secure facial recognition and iris scan feature that unlocks with non-depth sensing front camera. On the other hand, iPhone X uses infrared dots to map your face in 3D and unlocks it with true depth sensing front camera. So this is more secure than Samsung face unlocks.


iPhone X is the most expensive phone ever by Apple. The iPhone X is priced at Rs 89,000 and Samsung Galaxy S9+ is priced at Rs 64,900.

iPhone X

The Forbes magazine states that the iPhone X is the worst iPhone ever because of its bad user experience. It states that the user experience is a major backward and it requires more gestures and steps to navigate through the new phone.

The Gadget 360 gives iPhone X a rating of 9/10 for its stunning design and display, camera, wireless charging and assured and timely software updates. The cons include high pricing and no fast charging.

The Economic Times states that the iPhone X is a premium device that paves the way for future iPhones.

Samsung Galaxy S9+

The Forbes magazine states that the Samsung S9+ is very highly priced and it is the biggest nasty surprise.

The Gadget 360 gives it a 9/10 rating for its excellent build quality, stereo speakers, battery life, amazing rear camera, Vivid HDR display and snappy all-around performance. The cons are attracting fingerprints easily and the intelligent scan is clunky.

The Economic times states that Samsung Galaxy S9+ is at the top of the smartphone.

Final Verdict

The two phones are the best from each flagship. The iPhone was a huge step for Apple but Samsung S9+ had only minor improvements from its previous version. Considering the price, memory, speakers and more Samsung Galaxy S9+ wins the battle.
